Overview about Navratri Durga Puja 2012
Durga puja is a very important Hindu festival celebrated in India. It is also popular by the name of “Navratra”. It is generally a festival which is celebrated for ten days. Goddess Durga is worshipped in these days in all nine different forms. This festival is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm in every part of the country. But in the areas of West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura and Orissa this festival is celebrated in really good and high spirits. This festival comes two times in one single year. The dates of durga puja 2012 are planned as per the religious calendar of the Hindus. Many religions have now started to follow the lunar calendar or the solar calendar. But generally for Hindu people it remains a combination of both. As per the solar calendar of the Hindus the most auspicious day of Durga puja comes on the very first day of the month of Ashwin and then this puja goes on for the coming nine days. The days are counted according to the sun sets and the sun rise. As per the lunar months the timings of the puja are decided. The Navratri Durga puja is performed with all rituals and customs in the Hindu families.

The schedule of the religious ceremonies of Hindu Bengalis is decided according to the movement of moon which is also known as tithi. The last three days are more of festive nature as compared to the starting three days. This year the Navratra will come on 28 th September. On the ninth day the Mahanavmi is celebrated in which small girls are worshipped. At this time the feet are washed of the small girls to give respect to the Goddess. The small girls are thought to be the incarnation of Goddess Durga.
