Ganesha chaturthi is best known as vinayak chaturthi in india. On the occasion of Ganesh utsav there are many idols made to be worshipped. These idols are made of clay and are made of different sizes, form, color and poses.
This occasion is celebrated as the birthday of Ganesha. Ganesha is known as the god of wisdom, prosperity, fame and fortune. This is celebrated with great joy in the states of south India.
As per the mythology of India,God Ganesha is known to have his head of an elephant, and is worshipped to remove all sins and obstacles. He is the only god who is worshipped before any other god’s puja is done.
Special Ganesha Chaturthi pooja is done on this day. This day devotees offer coconouts,laddoo to the god. Some special puja are offered in the temples. This year the Ganesh utsav 2011 was also organized in a fantastic and superb manner. Every home has the idol of Ganesha on this day, so that they can worship and ask for his blessings.
The actual Ganesh puja begins on that day and goes on for 10 days. After the 10th day the idol of Ganesha is immersed in the sea. The Prasad made on this day is Ganesha’s favouriate. This sacred food is then given to all his devotees. The Prasad is basically modakam made of coconut,rice flour and then steam cooked. After the tenth day the idol is not considered good to keep at home.
It is said that Ganesha rides on a small rat, which is a symbol of ego. It is also, it is also said that there is a snake tied on his belly. It is believed that the belly of god is the whole cosmos. The idols of ganesha are made with sweet ladoos in his hand, long trunk and long ears.
Ganesh chaturthi is known as the major festival of Maharashtra. Lokmanya bal Gangadhar tilak who gave a revolution to the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi. He was the only one to make Ganesh utsav to public celebration common in all masses.
