This festival dhan teras is also known as Dhanwantari Triodasi and Dhantrayodashi. It falls on 13th lunar day of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu calendar month Kartik i.e. the month of October or November.
The word dhan in Dhanteras refers to wealth. On this day Godess Laxmi is prayed and worshipped in order to get her divine blessings. It is a firm belief of the people that with their prayers they can get the blessing of well being and prosperity. This is the reason why it also holds a major importance in the business community.
