Fasting in Adhik Maas – Vrat, Pujas and Rituals
Adhik Maas is also popularly known by the name of Purushottam Maas in the western parts if the India. This month is considered highly promising for performing fast or Vrat, pujas and other rituals which are devoted to Lord Vishnu. If during this month an individual recites Shrimad Bhagvad Gita and also Bhagvad Puran then the outcomes of it are highly meritorious. There are some people who perform fasting in Adhik Maas – Vrat, pujas and rituals which are devoted to Lord Vishnu.
Lord Shri Krishna has told the significance of the Adhik Maas Vrat in the Bhavishyottra Puran. He states that by performing the Vrat, Pujas and other rituals with full cleanliness and charity in this month devoted to the almighty Lord Vishnu all the merits can be acquired and all sorts of hurdles will be removed from the life of the worshipper. The spiritual work performed in the Adhik Maas gives more benefits and the results are really a great success.
Let us talk about adhik mass 2012- rituals and significance which involves fasting in Adhik Maas. Basically, the Adhik Mass vrat begins on the first day and it continues till the last day of the Adhik Maas. During this month waking up in the Brahma Muhurta or between 4 am to 6 am is considered good. After having ablutions and taking bath, place an idol or a painting of Lakshmi-Narayan or Radha-Krishna and start with the Sodashopachara pooja. In this pooja there are 16 steps. If you are not comfortable with this pooja you can even perform normal pooja.
It is good to visit the temple of almighty Lord Vishnu during this month. Even an individual can visit the temple of any of his incarnations during this month to get his blessings. If we talk about the food to be taken during this month when you perform Vrat then it should be completely vegetarian and Sattvik which means free from impurities. You can take milk, fruits, grains, nuts and vegetable etc.
