Learn about when does Mal Maas comes
Mal Maas is also known by the name of Adhik Maas. It is popularly known as Purushottam, Ashimaas, Malimaluch, Ahansapati or Sansarpa maas. In the lunar solar calendar the extra month comes in every three years which is known as Adhik Maas. Therefore, the month in which Surya Sankranti does not fall is referred to as Adhik Maas. In the Hindu Vedas and ancient scriptures this month is believed to be very important. In the lunar and solar year there is a difference and to compensate this difference the month of Mal Maas is added to the calendar.
If a person performs social practices such as charities he or she will surely get success and prosperity in life. The donation, charity, homas and other special poojas performed in this month are believed to be very beneficial. Generally, there are twelve months in the solar calendar. There twelve months are based on the movement of the Sun in 365 days or a year and if there is a additional month added in this cycle then that month is referred to as Purushottam Maas 2012. Auspicious work like marriages etc are prohibited in this month but one can perform the religious work in this month as this can prove to be fruitful.
Let us take a look when this additional month comes? Mal Maas is based on the astrological calculation in which the Sun or Surya completes its one cycle in 30.44 days which make one solar month and similarly a solar year consists of 365.25 days. In the same way in the lunar year there are 354.36 days as the lunar months consists of 29.53 days. So the difference between the both is 10.87 days. To cope up with this difference Adhik Maas was developed because this difference becomes approx one month in every three years.
