The holy festival of Mahashivaratri in India
India is festival rich country and usually the festivals are celebrated throughout the year. All the 365 days are spent by celebrating festivals. India is the second largest populated country in the world. India has varieties of religions in it the major ones are Hindus and Muslims. The Hindus celebrate festivals like holi, diwali etc. through out the year. One of the holy festivals that the Hindus eagerly wait is Mahashivratri. It is related to lord Shiva which is believed to be the creator of world. The Shiva devotees are all can be found in every part of the world.
The festival is celebrated with full enthusiasm all over India and other Hindu majority parts in rest of the world. The festival is believed to be the holy day for lord Shiva devotees. The devotees look it as birth day of lord. On this day Hindus perform numerous prayers to please lord Shiva. It is believed that lord Shiva fulfills all the desires of the devotees on this day. There is another story behind celebration of this festival according to the holy books. Lord Shiva is believed to be the creator of world accompanied by lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. It is believed that 13th day during the preparation of the world was the most memorable day for lord Shiva. When lord was resting after the preparation of world then Parvati (wife of lord Shiva) asked him about the most pleasurable day during the creation of the world. After hearing question of Parvati lord Shiva smiled and answered that 13th day when the moon was in full light was the moment most memorable for him. This answer was repeated by Parvati during whole day and many creatures heard it. After some time creatures went to different parts of the world and spread it every where. After that this day is celebrated with full devotion by all Hindu devotees as Maha Shivaratri.
